Stage One — Griffith University to Broadbeach

Stage One of the project is the priority route from Griffith University (Parklands Drive, Southport) to Broadbeach. This 13 kilometre dedicated light rail corridor will service the new Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University, Southport medical precinct and the fast growing commercial, retail and recreational centres of Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. There are 16 stations planned for the Stage One corridor.

The Stage One corridor is well suited to accommodating dedicated east - west bus connections with high-quality interchanges planned for Southport and Broadbeach.

Delivery of Stage One is scheduled for 2014.

Surfers Paradise Boulevard
In February 2010 the state government announced that a new V8 Supercar motor racing event (the Armor All Gold Coast 600) will take place through the streets of Surfers Paradise on a shorter course than the former Indy 300 event. This change provided the opportunity to optimise the light rail route down Surfers Paradise Boulevard. More information about Surfers Paradise Boulevard
