Early works
What are early works?

Early works are the construction and service relocation activities that occur prior to the main construction activities. Early works help to reduce interface risk and reduce impacts on traffic and the community. The initial early works activities will include:
- preliminary works including survey work, geotechnical investigations, acquisition of property, works on impacted community facilities and some works on partially affected properties
- relocation of public utilities including communications, power, water, gas and sewage services
- some road widening and intersection upgrades.
Early Contractor Involvement approach
The project team is delivering major construction and roadworks packages using an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) approach. The ECI approach allows the project team to reach common understanding with bidders on items such as design, how the work will be completed, local participation and working with the community to minimise impacts.
Roadworks north and south
The project has identified two government funded packages, valued at a total of approximately AUD$110 million, in the early and enabling works packages.
These works are divided geographically into two areas:
- Roadworks — North (Southport)
- Roadworks — South (Broadbeach)
The works will include road widening, the relocation of public utilities and accommodation works such as the reinstatement of driveways, fencing and car parks. These early and enabling works will prepare the Stage One corridor for construction. The tender period for the roadworks north and south packages has now closed.
